Penicillin in the Bloodstream
Penicillin travels through the bloodstream with a strained β-lactam ring (4-membered) fused to a thiazolidine ring (5-membered). This ring strain is what makes penicillin reactive. Green atoms = β-lactam/thiazolidine core.
